Blessed Yule to you & yours
You may already celebrate Yule in many ways because plenty of these ancient traditions have been integrated into our modern-day Christmas celebrations. Here are some easy ways to celebrate this illuminating season.
Decorate a Yule Tree:
While it’s common to have a tree inside during the Yule holiday, they used to be placed outside and decorated with dried fruit and shiny items as an offering to the winter spirits. Adding a five-point star to the top to represent the elements of fire, water, air, earth, and spirit also adds a traditional touch.
Craft a Wreath:
A Yule wreath represents new life. Adding evergreens, holly, and seasonal plants is a nod to the Holly King, and the circle represents the Wheel of the Year. Mistletoe adds protection and luck.
Yule Log:
One of the most common representations of Yule in modern times is the Yule Log, traditionally a dried oak log burned with intention and kept aflame throughout the night. You can create a beautiful but meaningful centerpiece with a small log, greenery, and candles to represent the coming of the light. I like to add dried berries and carve intentions for the upcoming year onto my candles. Another option is to bake or buy a Yule Log cake and enjoy it during your Yule supper.
Cheers with Wassail:
Wassail means “good health” in Old English and is a strong alcoholic drink made with all the necessary festive ingredients.
